Outreach has begun!
Pray for a government to reform in Haiti that will care for the needs of its people. Right now there is still anarchy and various gangs vying for power. They need a government willing and able to represent and negotiate for their people.
Pray for improved relations between Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Dominican Republic is currently rounding up and deporting as many of the Haitians living in their country as they can and the pressure is intensifying. There is a desperate need for peace and mutual understanding between these two nations.
Pray for spiritual awakening in both countries. Pride has a spiritual stronghold over Dominican Republic. Haiti has been captive to witchcraft and bound to a mentality of poverty for centuries. The name of Jesus has the power to cast down strongholds and set the captives free. We call for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and an increased awareness of his presence.
From the 26th to the 27th of June, the Nelson-Tasman area was hit with heavy rain. Flooding closed many of the roads in the area just south and west of our base and forced many people to evacuate. One person was killed. Heavy rain came again both of the following weekends, bringing more flooding and damage. Pray for God's provision for those who have had homes and businesses damaged by the floods and that rebuilding would progress smoothly.

More than 2% of New Zealand's population is homeless, which is one of the highest rates in the developed world, and it is continuing to increase. Some are Christian, but many have been deeply hurt by the church, especially among the Māori. Pray for the government to respond wisely and with compassion. Pray for protection of those on the streets and support structures to help them find housing and jobs. Pray for freedom from addiction and mental illness. Pray for radical encounters with Jesus.
The people of the Philippines are some of the happiest and kindest people we have met. They are also living in some of the poorest conditions that people can. A full community lives on "Smokey Mountain"; a trash dump known for regularly emitting smoke when the fumes ignite due to the heat and pressure. These families somehow get by on selling the trash they can find that's still usable or is recyclable and live on pennies a day.
Pray against corruption preventing social welfare from helping the people who need it. Pray for better health and safety programs operating in these unsanitary places. Pray for those in abject poverty, that God's light would shine in the darkness.

The majority of the population are Roman Catholic. Here, they still lean heavily on the practice of Indulgences (paying to help family get out of purgatory). Many of the saints are venerated and prayed to at least as much as Jesus. And some places specifically pray to the Black Nazarene.
Please pray against the religious spirit that has taken hold here and for a widespread revelation that salvation is by grace, and not by works. Pray against idolatry and a pantheon dressed up as Christianity. Pray for a fresh infusion of the Bible into the populace and the transforming work of the gospel.
Pray for continued health of our entire team and staff, especially on outreach. Most of our travels will be in crowded, less sanitary places, so health and safety is a large concern. One team member was hospitalized for a few days because of dengue fever. Pray for her quick and complete recovery and for protection over the rest of the team.
Pray for good relationships between our team members. We were warned that the biggest reason missionaries quit is because of arguments and offense with their coworkers. We want to be known for how we love; loving one another, loving the people we serve, and loving Christ.
Pray for spiritual resilience as we go through the course. DTS can be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. We must lean on God every step of the way to make it through.
Pray for God's continued provision.
Pray that we would seek and find God's guidance on the right steps to take and when.
Pray that our relationship with God and with each other would strengthen and grow during this time.
Pray for the health and well-being of our families back home.
Pray that our hearts would be soft and receptive to the teachings here. We want to get out of the way and let God move in our lives and hearts.
